Antique Stella 17 1/2 disc player with38 discs cleaned, tuned and serviced -2016

The beautiful Stella 17 1/2 disc player and matching disc storage cabinet pictured is being offered in this listing. It was serviced in late February of 2016 by Roger Puls of Parma, Ohio. He is the owner of Puls, Inc. He cleaned the mechanisms, tuned the combs to the original specs taking dozens of hours to do so! , and repaired the soundboard (there was a small crack in it). When he completed his work, we had a beautiful and nostalgic vintage disc player that plays well with all functions working! There are no missing or damaged teeth in either of the dual combs. Wording on the chromed plate reads, Brevette SGOG-British Patent; D. Muster; Swiss made; Patented, Sept. April 9, 1989; Aug. 2, 1897-+12748; June 29, 1897-+13796;Aug. The gold painted base plate has the number “6549″ engraved into it. The disc player was manufactured by Mermoot Freres, St. Croix, Switzerland, circa 1900. The disc player footed cabinet is made of mahogany with a nice finish for its age. Dimension are 29 1/2 wide” at the base by 22″ deep and the cabinet is 15 high There are small nail holes around the perimeter of the player lid that have been filled with wood filler many years ago. There is a drawer for the storage of discs and the original pulls are in place. There is also a brass escutcheon and a brass key for the player lid. The original crank handle with black wood knob shows nice patina wear from usage over the many years. The footed disc storage cabinet is also original to the player and is 30 1/2″ wide by 23″ deep and it is 29 1/2 tall. The original casters are in place. The keyhole opening is missing the small brass escutcheon and the key is included. I cannot assume any liability for the pieces once they leave my home. I will, however, be happy to make suggestions as to how to have it insured. Following are the titles of the discs : Silver Lake Varsoviana, circa 1889; Artist Life Waltz, circa 1896; Babes in Toyland Waltz (#99); The Wedding of the Reuben and the Maid (#774); Soi mienne Sei Mein (#350), circa 1897; Valse Bleu (#718); Creole Belles March Two Step (#788); Funeral March (#251), circa 1897; Old Heidelberg (#1208); The Gondolier (#958); Carmen-Song of the Toreedor (#221), circa 1897; The Tyrolean-Nightengale (#65). When he completed his work, we had a beautiful and nostalgic vontage disc player that plays well with all functions working! There are no missing or damaged teeth in either of the dual combs. Wording on the chromed plate reads, Brevette SGOG-British Patent; D. Muster; Swiss made; Patented, Sept. June 29, 1897-+13796;Aug. The gold painted baseplate has the number “6549″ engraved into it. This Antique 19th C. Swiss music box belonged to my grandparents. It has been it was cleaned and serviced about a year ago and is in very good to excellent condition and has only been played a couple of times since it was done. The finish is in good original condition with the normal minor flaws you would expect on a antique music box. It has 6 beautiful songs. The cylinder length is 12 1/2 inches. The sheet that tells the names of songs sheet has been missing all my life unfortunately I don’t recognize the titles. Measurements: 23″ long, 6 1/2″ high and 9 deep approximately. It weighs 35 lbs. I will double box. The purchaser will be responsible for signing for the box in good order. ANTIQUE SECTIONAL COMB MUSIC BOX, CIRCA 1820 (JUST SERVICED WATCH VIDEO)

Early sectional comb music boxes rarely come to market. This music box was crafted circa 1820. The teeth are solid steel (no brass or lead weights soldered underneath for tuning) and each section has only three teeth. Later sectional comb music boxes will have four to five teeth per section and also weights soldered to the bass teeth for tuning. The case is a blend of tortoise shell and pressed horn and it does have a few of the lighter blonde inclusions sometimes featured in tortoise shell cases; this is not a gutta percha or bois derci case. The case, like all antique tortoise shell cases, naturally has been repaired in the past and has appropriate patina. It is important to note that this music box was not designed to be fully dampered like later music boxes so there will be some extra tonal vibrations as originally designed; I did re-damper the deepest toned bass teeth as the teeth allowed for that. I have heard both songs before but similar to many early music boxes, neither I nor my peers know the 200 year old songs. I fully serviced (cleaned, adjusted, lubricated) the mechanical movement and also added dampers to the extreme bass teeth so this music box plays very well and as designed. Approximate measurements in inches: 3 1/4 x 2 1/4 x 1 1/8 inches.. Overall in excellent antique condition with natural & appropriate patina. In summary, this is a nice example of an early sectional comb music box that is almost 200 years old. YouTube videos never do a music box justice and they always sound richer in person.
