Antique Petite Music Box Pin Brass Roller 62 Teeth on Comb Carved Wood Box Works & Runs. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! We have not come across a music box as small as this one, and as intricately made in many years. Wow, what a beautiful pressed or carved wood case and brass music box player inside of it. And even more unusual is the fine quality of the brass music player for such a small box. The box is only 4-11/16 across, but there are 62 teeth comb on the player! You would normally expect to see only a 30 teeth comb in a music box this small. Not sure if this is a French or Swiss Music box. The only markings we see on it are a serial number which is “10104″. My best guess is that the music box dates to the 1870s to 1880s and is Swiss or French made. This music box was very well maintained over the years. The 2.75 long pin cylinder shows little loss of finish. There are approximately 62 teeth on the comb and all the teeth are in place. The music box has a metal knob on the side that will make contact with the flywheel to stop and start the music. There is another metal knob on the front of the box that controls the speed the music box runs at. The wind mechanism works as expected and the wind spring feels sound when keyed. The music box comes with a vintage wind key. The case is in just amazing condition. No cracks, splits or missing pieces. There is what remains of a scene of the sky, land on the top of the case. Not sure if painted or applied paper. The top of the case sits down evenly on the base and firmly attached to the base by its’ hinges. No warping of the top going on with this music box which is a common malady that one comes across with these older boxes. So, very uncommon to find one in such great shape. The four small legs are still in place on the bottom of the case as well. On the bottom of the case, it has writing in pencil that looks like “Arrisone” in cursive. Looks like “Petite Leheichegg” was printed on the case originally. Also has 1723 Arch Street printed on the bottom of the case. The inside lid has 148 North 18th Street penciled into it. There is no music card listing inside of the case. Not sure what the tune is that the box plays. The comb is in excellent condition. All the approximately 62 teeth are in place, and I see no past repairs to them. Very clean nickel plated finish on the comb. The pin cylinder looks to be in very nice shape finish wise. Cannot say if any of the pins are bent or missing. The music box tunes sound great when the music box is played, so sounds like the pins are all hitting the comb teeth as expected. The stop and start button works. The music box case is 1-13/16″ tall, by 4-15/16″ across, by 3-5/16 wide. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
